The “Black Out” Collection II

A Black Players For Change, Black Women’s Player Collective, and Participation Trophy Studio Collaboration

Story Behind The Collection

The Blackout Collection II was an exclusive drop of seventeen limited edition hand dyed and customized jerseys that were inspired by BPC/BWPC players' collective and individual experiences during 2021.

The graphite color comes from the black and white photography commonly used by BPC across their site/social. Carrying this over to traditionally white kits was our way of showing that #MLSisBLACK and that black players have always been, and always will be, an integral and valuable part in the history of soccer in America.

The collection has been championed by seventeen players from across MLS, NWSL, and USL. This year's project included fourteen MLS players from eight different MLS clubs, and they are: Gyasi Zardes, Marlon Hairston, Jalil Anibaba (Columbus Crew), Earl Edwards Jr (New England Revolution), Sean Johnson (NYCFC), Tosaint Ricketts, Daiber Caicedo, Leonard Owusu (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Jacori Hayes, Hassani Dodson, Dayne St Claire (Minnesota United), (Drake Callender (Inter Miami CF), Kellyn Acosta (LAFC), and CJ Sapong (Nashville SC). Outside the MLS it featured Imani Dorsey (Gotham City FC), Crystal Dunn (Portland Thorns), and Quincy Amarikwa (Unsigned, most recently w/ Oakland Roots).

As change must be unified at all levels, the BPC branded hashtag #TogetherThereWillBeChange appears in gold on the back of each shirt as a physical reminder to everyone that we are all equally needed in this fight for equality.

Each of the kits was available to fans through a charitable sweepstakes with all proceeds going to a joint fund supporting BPC and BWPC’s amazing work increasing access and opportunity to football for people in underrepresented communities.
